About the Program

San Francisco General Hospital (SFGH) is a nationally renowned public teaching hospital associated with the UCSF School of Medicine. Birthing women receive care collaboratively from doulas, nurses, midwives, and physicians in our Certified Baby-Friendly Birthing Center. The Doula Program Coordinator, Monnie Reba Efross RN, MSN, has worked as a labor and delivery nurse at the hospital since 1979. Monthly Doula Volunteer meetings feature guest speakers and provide an opportunity to share and process experiences of birth assistance at SFGH. Our goal is to become a fully funded program. Doulas and those who want to support us are invited to participate in program projects including fundraising projects.
